Pilates Teachers
Jacqueline Ethier, Owner

Jacqueline Ethier is a fully Certified Pilates Teacher and professional dancer. She studied the Pilates Method for nearly ten years before opening the Pilates Space in 2002. Jacqueline is studying with The Ron Fletcher Program of Study under the guidance of her mentor Sagrario Castilla, and under the direction of Kyria Sabin in Tucson, Arizona and Pat Guyton in Boulder, Colorado. Ron Fletcher is a Master Teacher who began his studies of Body Contrology, the name Joseph Pilates gave his fitness method, with Joseph and wife Clara in New York City in 1948.

Over twenty years of dance training gives Jacqueline a unique sense of the body and how it moves. Jacqueline teaches all levels of the Pilates Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Spine Corrector, and Chair. Jacqueline is a Licensed Fletcher Towelwork Teacher. She remains an active instructor in the community teaching at The School of Dance, Le Groupe Dance Lab, and Santosha Yoga Westboro. Jacqueline is proud to be an ambassador for lululemon athletica for 2005-2006.

Charlie Ayoub

Charlie's first exposure to Pilates was in 2000 at the Pilates Centre of Ottawa. He has been studying under the guidance of Jacqueline Ethier at the Pilates Space since 2003 learning Matwork, Reformer, Towelwork, and Magic Circle.

Charlie is enthusiastic about health, fitness, and life. He studied Wing Chun Kung Fu from 1996-2003 under the supervision of Sifu Walter Jakimczuk where he was first introduced to efficiency of movement, balance and coordination. He also holds a YMCA Personal Training Certification. Charlie stays motivated and challenged by practicing and teaching Pilates.



Heather Cairns

Heather Cairns received her teacher training certificate from Helene Roy Pilates. She teaches Matwork, Reformer, Chair and Cadillac. Co-Owner and operator of Framed! Heather's interest in Pilates began in 1999 following a running injury. She has become dedicated to the study of the Method after realizing its many benefits mostly for low back problems caused by scoliosis.

Heather has traveled to participate in Pilates and bodywork educational programs with Erik Franklin, and first generation teachers Lolita San Miguel and Kathy Grant.

Heather looks forward to continuing her education at the Pilates Space with Jacqueline Ethier, and brings with her an enthusiasm for teaching, and many years of experience as a creative entrepreneur.



Sarah Christie

Sarah began Pilates in 2003 with Helene Roy Pilates at the recommendation of her physiotherapist to help her recover from a chronic injury. In the years that followed she continued as a student with instructor Heather Cairns. Sarah continues to be intrigued by the healing abilities of Pilates.

A strong communicator who enjoys helping others find awareness and strength in their bodies, Sarah is a welcome addition to the Pilates Space team.  After successful completion of her matwork certification in 2007 under the guidance of Jacqueline Ethier, Sarah looks forward to continuing her training and completing The Ron Fletcher Program of Study Comprehensive Program in 2009.



Lori Duncan

Lori has an infectious enthusiasm for movement. A long-time professional dancer, presently with Le Groupe Dance Lab in Ottawa, she has been practicing body work for 6 years and Pilates for 3 years. After receiving her Matwork certification under the instruction of Jacqueline Ethier in 2007, Lori began teaching at the Pilates Space where she has quickly developed a very personalized approach, engaging every unique individual with honesty and fun.






Marie Claire Forté

A dancer and choreographer with Le Groupe Dance Lab, Marie Claire is a movement aficionado. She began her Pilates training in Toronto in 1996, and since moving to Ottawa in 2004, has deepened her knowledge of the practice through training with Jacqueline Ethier at the Pilates Space.

Marie Claire's journey into teaching Pilates began in 2005 and is enhanced by her numerous years of dance experience and her devotion to communication.




Jane Hermanson

First introduced to Pilates four years ago, Jane has been studying the Method under the supervision of Jacqueline Ethier at the Pilates Space, learning Pilates Matwork, Reformer, Spine Corrector and Towelwork.

Jane is passionate about physical and mental fitness, invigorating activity, vegetarian nutrition, and good health. With a varied sports background including running, soccer, rock climbing and free weights, Jane has found Pilates to be an ideal compliment to balance physical training with a busy career.

"It's so rewarding to witness a client glow after completing a challenging exercise! That sense of accomplishment is so powerful.



Mary Catherine Jack

After receiving a visual arts degree from the University of Waterloo, Mary Catherine decided to further expand her artistic experience through dance. She completed the Professional Contemporary Dance Program at The School of Dance and dove deeper into studying the body by completing her Pilates matwork certification through Jacqueline Ethier in 2007.

Mary Catherine enjoys teaching movers of all ages and works in Ontario schools teaching dance as an independent artist as well as in collaboration with Learning Through the Arts.






Gaby Lefebvre

Since 2000, Gaby has studied Pilates in Canada, the U.S, and Antigua. She realized her true passion for Pilates while spending time as a volunteer school council member, teaching German classes, and launching San Jose's first Charter School Program. Gaby continues to deepen her knowledge of the Pilates Method, studying with Jacqueline Ethier and Sagrario Castilla.

Gaby's drive for achievement and commitment, coupled with a healthy sense of humor, creates an environment for her clients to successfully reach their goals while having fun!

Registered Massage Therapists
Marta Hanrahan

Marta Trained in the Rolf Method of Structural Integration (SI) at The Guild for Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado. She studied Massage Therapy in Ottawa, Ontario at Kine Concept Massage Therapy Institute. Marta’s practice focuses mostly on postural dysfunctions and injury rehabilitation. She also has training in pregnancy, sports, deep tissue, Hydrotherapy, neuro-muscular, myo-facial, and relaxation massage.

Marta is the first Registered Massage Therapist to offer The Rolf Method of Structural Integration in the Ottawa area. Insurance coverage is available for Massage Therapy and SI.



Personal Trainers
Megan Murtagh

Megan has been working in the health and fitness industry for 11 years and owns Bounce Private Personal Training Studio, located next to the Pilates Space.

In addition to being a personal trainer, Megan specializes in "active" or "assisted" stretching and teaches the importance of stretching to correct posture, reduce joint pain, and prevent spinal degeneration.

Her wealth of knowledge and experience comes from working in close supervision with local doctors, massage therapists and physiotherapists and working with her clients daily. Megan is certified with ACE and truly enjoys working with each individual to attain optimum health.



Guest Teachers
Maureen Shea

Visiting teacher, Maureen Shea, has been practicing the Pilates Method for the past 7 years and since 2005 has been mentored by Jacqueline Ethier at the Pilates Space. In 2007, she received her Fletcher Towelwork licencing with Sagrario Castilla.

Maureen has used the knowledge acquired from her study of Pilates to enhance her career as a professional dance artist. Her movement experience includes contemporary dance technique, contact dance, ashtanga yoga and Body-Mind Centering. In 2002, Maureen instigated the Grasshoppa Dance Exchange and Hops in Ottawa, Montreal, and Italy (www.artengine.ca/grasshoppadance).

Maureen has been teaching dance to people of all ages and levels for over twenty years. She possesses a keen eye for detail and applies a holistic approach in her study of the body. Maureen est bilingue.
